Superb views
OUR VIEW
Hotel Kristal is a family-owned hotel, which grew to its present size from humble beginnings as a little restaurant. Many years ago, the owners decided that, as their eatery was so popular, they would add some rooms for those who wanted to stay overnight. Then they expanded the restaurant... which required more rooms... and so on until they woke up one day with a pretty sizable hotel around them. Given that the Kristal has been nurtured and almost organically 'grown' over the years, you can be sure that as a guest, you will receive friendly, homely treatment in this charming little hotel.
ACCOMMODATION
There are thirty rooms in the Kristal, ranging in size from doubles to family suites. All are tastefully decorated in the local style: the beds and furniture are pine, the linen is crisp and the views are gorgeous.
THE RESTAURANT
Unusually for many hotels in the area, the Kristal's restaurant is the core of the business. The chef always uses fresh, seasonal, local produce and takes great pride in cooking some of the best food in Bohinj. Most dishes are traditional alpine fare... but are none the worse for that!
WORKING UP
AN APPETITE Skiing. The mountains around Lake Bohinj are a popular ski resort for Slovenes. You won't find advanced pistes, but plenty of easy-moderate skiing. The management can organise ski passes, tuition, transport, equipment hire... and something we just have to try when we go back: white-water rafting... on snow!
Go hiking (or, as we call it, walking). Around
the lake, or walking trails lead you up over mountain
passes to alpine pastures or along river valleys to
hidden waterfalls. Fishing. A permit will
cost around £75 a day, which can be arranged for
you. Golf.
There is an excellent golf club in Bled, about 20km. Driving to Lake Bled
(smaller and less impressive than Bohinj), Ljubljana
or just about anywhere in Slovenia: allow an hour to
get you just about anywhere up to two to get you
anywhere else.
LANGUAGES Slovene, English
