Vila Kras (Hiša na Krasu - pron. Hisha na Krasu) is a beautifully renovated semi-detached traditional farmhouse. It has a slate roof - typical of the region - which will keep the sky from falling in on up to twelve snuggly residents. It would make a perfect holiday house for a family, two families, or a largish group of friends (or a group of largish friends), being located in the beautiful karst region: home of prsut (cured ham), teran wine (from the local refošk grape) and... caves.
Two rustic, but comfortable double bedrooms, suitable for proper adults like what we are, another bedroom with bunk beds, for proper kids like what we used to be. There are also three double matresses available in the converted loft - if kids or the other kind of adults want to hide up there. There is a large bathroom with a bubbly-bath, and a separate toilet.
The domestic stuff - kitchen, bathroom, beds etc. - is very well spec'd, while there is also a large LCD TV and DVD player, for when the outside just gets too beautiful to take.
There is a large open-plan living/dining/kitchen on the ground floor, with seating for up to eight people. Just outside the living area is a terrace, which leads on to a lovely garden, with great views across the karst landscape. Up to six of you can bubble away the evening in the huge whirpool bath - or five while the other cooks supper and keeps up the supply of the excellent local wine, of course.
The house sits atop a hill in the pretty village of Sela na Krasu, very close to the Italian border (which you'll hardly notice, now that Slovenia is in the Schengen zone) - in fact, the nearest shopping is in the small Italian town of Monfalcone. The lovely village of štanjel is just fifteen minutes away, while the village overlooks the beaches of Trieste Bay (6km), and the Miramare castle would make a nice day trip.
There are family bikes available to rent, so you can cycle through local villages and vineyards. The owners of the house also rent out a few sailing boats, so if you want to spend a day sailing around Trieste or Piran bay or even venture further into Italy or Croatia, with or without a skipper, we'll see what we can do.
If you want to try pršut and teran wine, speak to the housekeeper, Vasja, who can either take you to their own family wine cellar in a nearby village or book a wine tasting for you in any of the other local wineries... or pršuteries (is that a word? It is now).
The Karst region is renowned for its caves, so you really should have a look. Indeed, Slovenia's most impressive caves - Škocjan - are just a shortish drive away, and you really, really must see that. Just inland you will find the Vipava valley, where some of Slovenia's great wines are made - while about an hour away is Goriška Brda, where most of the rest of the best is made.
Slovene, English.

More than welcome.
Sela na Krasu sits just above the Adriatic. You can expect
very warm summers: July and August are the hottest months,
with daytime temperatures around 26C, while during spring
and autumn you can expect around 12-18C. Evening temperatures
will be slightly lower, so bring something a little
warmer. Winters are normally very sunny and there is seldom snow - but that would just make Vila Kras a cosier place to stay!
Entirely up to you (and availability, natch). Obviously, April to September if you want to soak up the sunny stuff, but Vila Kras would make a lovely winter retreat.
In the summer, shorts, T-shirts,
sturdy shoes or boots, something warm for the evenings, for daytime
adventures.
In the winter - you should know.
