The folks at the Allegro, from desk clerks to kitchen staff, not to mention owners were some of the best ever. And certainly we both appreciated the room, lounge, breakfasts. Obviously can't beat the location. A really lovely addition.
Seruga, wonderful, relaxing, and I even slept till 8 am... a miracle in itself. Lily, Eva, cats, dog, chickens, guests, all delightful. Excellent pancakes, and incredible deer stew. It felt like we were visiting family.
Pri Lenart felt, literally, on top of the world. Stunning location, an inn with much care and attention to detail. Food we will long remember (duck with some wonderful plum sauce, and a pasta with the most incredible selection of mushrooms carefully picked by Keith that Marc could not stop talking about).
We would absolutely stay in any or all of these hotels/inns again and highly recommend them all.

All round gorgeous. Weather (thank you for organising this), accommodation, food, culture, landscape, transport...
Antiq is a lovely hotel with superb breakfast.
Vila Park was also lovely and Jana extremely hospitable and efficient.
Valerie Purcell |
Wonderful walking holiday and even the weather obliged. Hotels [Hvala, Pristava Lepena, Vila Park] were excellent - more importantly they were exactly as you described. Vila Park is a gem that deserves more praise from you. Many thanks for all your help - it made organising the trip very easy.

Bob - you sorted our accommodation [Blegoš Chalet] and made it v easy for which we are very grateful and that is why i am filling in this form. excellent web site although must say i prefer the rough guide to the one you like, although that is a good book too (v.v. minor point). slovenia really is lovely, as were the people many of whom went out of their way to help - one guy who we never met before drove us 10 miles to a hospital when our son fell off his bike! and we visited pretty much everywhere we wanted to and it was all as good as we had hoped - the lakes, mountains, towns etc. were great.
Paul Common |
Holiday was wonderful. Loved the country and countryside - mountains, extraordinary clean rivers and lakes etc - loved the food. loved the people. 3 hotels were very different but each excellent in their own way. At Vila Park the owner was extremely friendly & helpful and though there was no choice over food what there was was simple and excellent. Nebesa was everything you said - a very interesting and unique experience. Owners very friendly but also prepared to stay back if you wanted to be on own. At Kendov Dvorec the service and food were first rate. All extremely relaxing.

[Dobra Vila]: Good location, very attentive service, and lovely food and drink... Close to all that Bovec has to offer, and suitable for just hanging around if you dont feel like venturing far afield.

Antiq - Fab location, very helpful staff, clean. Appartment suited us just right.
Pristava Lepena - WONDERFUL. We loved every minute. Location would be hard to surpass and you couldn't find anyone more accommodating than Milan and Sylvia. They treated us as friends. We cannot find fault - not that we'd want to!
The McKendrick family |
We loved both accommodations. Staying in the "old town" (Antiq) part of the city was charming and so beautiful. Both places had welcoming and accommodating staff and the rooms and grounds clean. Pristava Lepena was a nice change of pace from a typical hotel. For our 15 yr old son - it was a great place to venture around during down time. We had dinner twice at Pristava and both times was very good.

A lovely, well appointed, clean hotel [Kristal] with attentive, well informed and welcoming staff at all levels. Luca (works in the kitchen) is a personable 19-year old who met our son (17) and daughter (19) at bar in the village on our penultimate night and gave them a great time sampling huge quantities of local brew (while we did a posh organ recital up the valley). Needless to say the next morning was a 'slow day'. The hotel staff were very helpful when supporting our plans and making suggestions. Our son highly rated all the food (and that is quite something!).
Ten days of glorious sunshine was the icing on the cake and activity highlights included swimming in lake Bohinj; tandem paragliding; visiting the magnificent caves further south; canyoning in the Soca valley, travelling via the car train through the tunnel; a high level walk in the mountains and particularly the alpine flowers; and the gala meals on both Wednesdays at Hotel Kristal.
A special thank you to Bob and his 'real world' approach to life - we will be recommending the Dream to others!
Andrew Cole |
It was as good as it gets [Pristava Lepena] - idyllic setting, warm welcome, efficient service, good on-site restaurant, plenty of easily accessible local activities (cable car, rafting, trekking, gorse-riding). We're going back!

Fantastic holiday - Slovenia is magical, people are extremely friendly and there is plenty to see and do. After a day of adventure the food and wine is wonderful and the hotels [Sun House, Kendov Dvorec] were the ideal place to relax.
Andrew Brock |
Slovenia is great. So many fantastic suprises from waterfalls, gorges, lakes, mountain views etc, etc.
Ratece village is so peacefull and full of local character. House next door [to Vila Nebina] has cows in the basement.
Apartment built to high standard. Well placed for exploring. Roads great. Lubljana city centre not much more than an hour away.
Dave Fielding |
We had a great time, and really managed to relax quickly. Bohinj and Soca were lovely and not too busy to the extent that Lubjiana, whilst still relaxed, was a bit of a return to reality. The freedom and laid back feel at Nebesa made it feel like home but with the added advantage of a stocked fridge, gym and pool.
The service everywhere was just the right balance of attentiveness.
Ian Flewitt |
All excellent in their different ways. The friendliness and welcome at each was first class. The food at Kendov Dvorec was exceptional; it wasn't half bad at Dobra Vila also but not quite in the same league. All in all, we had an delightful holiday and are most grateful to you for organising it. We will return; I know that we have to dine at Hiša Franko!
Robert Dolman |
Three very different types of accommodation but all fantastic - I think we had the best room in the house at the Vila Park.
We ate everything that was put in front of us and enjoyed it all.
We also went on the car train to get from Bohinj to Most na Soci - a great experience for 11.8 euros

The Antiq was the ideal place to stay in Ljubljana. Perfect location, good hotel service, nice rooms and very friendly staff.
Kendov Dvorec was defintely the highlight of all the hotels we stayed on our trip through Italy and Slovenia. Highly recommendable from A-Z.

Warm welcome and comfortable room [at Šeruga]. Lovely rural location. Plenty of good advice, maps etc. on offer. Very nice breakfast buffet.
Simon Walker |
Amazing view over the valley [from Nebesa], friendly and helpful owners, nicely isolated! Restaurant at Hisa Franko was amazing.

Hi Bob
We are back and I just wanted to let you know what a great time we had in Slovenia. Of course you were right about Pristava Lepena, what a special place. I can see why you decided to get married there. I had a couple of lovely rides and we also did some fab walks both in the valley and also in the mountains.
It rained in Bohinj so didn't see it at its best but between very heavy downpours got an idea and indeed came across a nearly roasted suckling pig as we were driving and stopped for a very long and delicious lunch instead! We were bowled over by the amazing wildflowers but a bit disappointed by the weather - as it happened we left a week of hot sunshine in london, typical!!
Whilst we thought the Antiq Hotel was a great location and the staff were really friendly.
So thanks for your help organising everything, we hope to return.

Wonderful. Amazing region to be staying in, beautiful villages, beautiful country. The situation of the village, so near to Italy's coast, caves, Lubjianna etc. was fantastic. Vila Skrbina was wonderful. Excellently resourced and very pleasantly furnished. Everything was very comfortable. The kids loved the hot tub.

Nebesa is a unique experience. It looks amazing on the website but this doesn't capture the experience of being there and seeing the constantly changing mountains and sky.
We had fantastic weather for September; 25 degrees plus every day and brilliant blue skies. Every morning when we woke Kobarid was hidden under the morning mist and gradually appeared as the deep, dense white fog dispersed.
Katja and Bojan are wonderful, kind, thoughtful hosts keen to impart their local knowledge of the area and Slovenia. I went with plentiful reading, expecting a cosy and atmospheric setting for getting lost in books but as the weather was so good every day was a new exploration.
Day 1 we did the Kobarid Historical Trail with lunch at Camp Lazar recommended by Bojan and very good - grilled trout.
Day 2 we went white water rafting on the Soča River booked at the very friendly A2 booth in Kobarid; a great experience followed by lunch at the Hotel Hvala (Topli Val I think). The risotto starter was amazing and the fish platter main even better, washed down with a very good house white. We walked this off around the WW1 trenches above Nebesa.
Day 3, with some trepidation, we booked canyoning with A2 which was the most amazing adrenaline rush and a fantastic experience. Then we headed off to the Triglav National Park to see the gorge and the waterfalls. Exhausting but stunning!
Day 4 we made use of the bikes at Nebesa - the easy way! We put them in the car and rode in the valley, relaxing and pleasant with some stops along the river.
Day 5 we had to go home, but as the flight was in the evening we booked lunch at the Hiša Franko. Mmm - a must if you're in the area.

[Šeruga]: Beautiful accommodation in lovely setting and Lili and Eva were so welcoming, helpful and charming. Eva's cooking is fantastic and we ate far too much! Plenty to see and do in the area. We had a wonderful, relaxing week.
Linda Hazlewood-Smith |
We were really pleased with both hotels. We found Vila Park better than we expected, very comfortable and nice decor. They could have a later evening meal, but we were told about this and food was good. Jana was really helpful as well.
Nebesa was lovely. Owners really helpful as well, wonderful place to relax at end of holiday. We liked the arrangement with food in fridge and in common area.

Great views and a good location for travelling about. You can even pop to Italy for a real Italian pizza (we did!). Hotel [Belica] was clean and the food was excellent.
Kate Copland |
We had a fabulous time at both places and fell in love with Slovenia, had glorous weather with rain some nights which was perfect. Both hotels [Kristal, Dobra Vila] were spotlessly clean and very comfortable, owners/staff very helpful and friendly. It was one of the best summer holidays we have had in a long time.

Hi there Bob
Just to let you know that we really enjoyed our stay at Šeruga. The countryside was beautiful too.

Hello Bob
Well, we arrived in the rain and left in the rain but the bit in the middle was totally magical!
We have had a wonderful time! Nothing disappointed. We crammed loads in (actually felt quite worn out when we got home!) and couldn't get over how different each place was, inspite of being only a couple of hours driving distance.
So, if you have the time to read this I'm going to tell you all about it!
Hotel Antiq, we enjoyed the night there. We had a very nice room with a little kind of conservatory style balcony at the back. The room was lovely; spacious and peaceful. We went out for a stroll (in the rain) to find somewhere for dinner and ended up at Julia's where we had our first (of many!) bottle of Slovenian wine. Good food there and good atmosphere. Had a quick scoot around the city in the morning before Avis delivered (made life much easier) the car at 11.30. Nice chap at the hotel gave us a free coffee while we waited for Avis.
So armed with our newly purchased road map (bought it from the Tourist Info) we set off for Lake Bled/Bohinj. Hmmm, had a spot of bother as the motorway junction didn't seem to be open. Ended up somewhere in Kranj so asked someone how we could get to the road and he gave us perfect directions (even though he had a hangover!). Had lunch at Lake Bled before continuing on our way to Bohinj and Vila Park, where we met Jana. First impression, she seemed a bit put out at the size of our suitcases (we only had one each, regular size, nothing too unusual!).
However, she turned out to be a delight (and quite a hoot also!) and was so helpful answering questions, making suggestions of where to go, things to do (she set us off on a lovely walk along the Mostnice river) and generally taking jolly good care of everyone. Our room at Vila Park was small but very comfy and we had a lovely balcony to boot. So we were very happy there. Dinner at VP was good, hearty food and all very nicely cooked. Jana also had a good selection of wines, so we had a good go at some of those!
So, from there we took the car train as you suggested and it was absolutely marvellous and a definite highlight of the trip! We were lucky enough to be in pole position (having got to the station in very good time, as they're not very frequent and the next one wasn't until late in the evening, so we didn't want to miss it) so had the most brilliant view all the way. The tunnels are very spooky though! Loved the uniformed station masters along the route!
Nebesa .... ahhhhhh .... I'm glazing over .... what a fabulous place. We, like all your other travellers, just loved it. The silence is amazing and as for the view, stunning. Bojan and Katja were lovely people too, so friendly and helpful. The chalet (sounds a bit naff, which it clearly wasn't!) was beautiful and very comfy. We loved it there. Dogs and cats were friendly too! We enjoyed Kobarid and the museum is really interesting, especially if you watch the film. A nice touch was when the girl who was taking the entrance fees came and found us to tell us the English version of the film was about to start. We never made it to Hisa Franko or any of the other restaurants ... it was too tempting to sit on our heavenly deck with candles and wine and silence.
Nearly finished ....
When we left, Katja suggested that instead of heading back to the main road we turned left out of their gate and headed over the hills on the windy road. It was a great suggestion as we went through deserted villages, past war stuff and through other pretty, pretty places.
So, what a complete change of scene at Belica! The temperature shot up by about 8-10 degrees (hit 36 on our last day!) and the landscape was totally different. At first we felt a bit shell shocked after the silence and tranquility of Nebesa, to have all these people around (the dining terrace was full both nights we were there). We had a lovely big room (thank gawd for aircon though!) and huge comfy bed. The food there was very good and once we'd got the hang of the wine list (ie they just put, red, white, bottle, 1l, glass and that's about it!) we were in the swing of things! Nice pool too, although I think they should get some cushions for the loungers, take it to the next level!
Because it was so darned hot we decided to head to the seaside for the day. Katja had suggested we try Grado. We ended up at Grado Pineta which is just before you get to Grado proper and was very Italian seasidy with umbrellas and loungers. Fun though!
Next day, time to go home :o( We were a bit nervous about finding our way to the motorway so Mary at Belica drew us a map and told us exactly how to get there, which was so helpful and worked perfectly too!
So, we absolutely loved our time in Slovenia and will definitely come back again. We wished we had had three nights at each place, as there were so many things to do and see at each one. Thank you very much for all your help with our booking and suggestions and recommendations. I'm not sure if you had any influence over what rooms we were given at each place but everywhere was super.
It really is a sparkly place!
Thanks again

Hello Bob,
We just wanted to contact you and say, "WOW!!!!". We had a fantastic week in Slovenia. Your recommedations were absolutely perfect. Jana was incredible, and Villa Park was perfect. She mentioned you had even been there recently yourself! She was so helpful in planning our intinerary. And the food... well, you know!
Nebesa was indescribable. You pull into the driveway thinking, oh my, is this really it! We kept saying, "Who knew a place like this even existed?!" It was worth every penny.
And Ahotel, was great as well. While they couldn't begin to compete with the amazing places we had already been, they made up for it with the service. They were exceptionally helpful in so many ways.
I could go on and on about the wonderful trip, but I know, you know!
Our thoughts are we will return someday. You know I'll be contacting you!

The owners [of Vila Kras] were super nice, easy to reach via phone and helpful. the whirlpool was great and the house fitted our needs very well in regards to its location in the karst area, the number of bedrooms, having a kitchen etc. |
