NEBESA

Soča Valley

Nebesa The ultimate chalet hotel: just four chalets sleeping two each. No children.

The Soča Valley is full of well-marked hiking trails, plus plenty of places to stop and feed your face, of course.

Slovenia should really be awarded the crown of Walking Capital of the Whole Wide World: it is simply amazing how many walking trails there are, criss-crossing the country.

Most Slovenes have a thing about walking (once they get out of their cars, that is), and think nothing of pootling along for a few hours to see where they end up.

It is definitely worth buying at least one walking guide book (no - not the lonely and rough ones: proper guide books!) - take a look at our Guide to the Guides.

As an alternative to walking, you can also hire mountain bikes... or ride horses... or splash about in the river... or paraglide... or...

DOBRA VILA

Soča Valley

Dobra Vila Superb newly-renovated hotel in Bovec.

HOTEL HVALA

Hvala, Kobarid Family-owned hotel in Kobarid with excellent fish restaurant.

HIŠA FRANKO

Soča Valley

Hiša Franko Boutique hotel in Kobarid, with world-class restaurant.

HIŠA NAD SOČO

Soča Valley

PRISTAVA LEPENA

Soča Valley

Pristava Lepena Chalet hotel nestling within the Julian Alps.

PULE ESTATE

Dolenjska

Posestvo Pule

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Hike, trek, mountain bike or ride Lipizzaners across the rolling hillsides.

BELICA

Goriška Brda

Belica

A working vineyard, with excellent accommodation and a restaurant serving fresh local dishes.

Excellent walking through the wine-growing region of Goriška Brda, where most of Slovenia's finest wines are made.

KENDOV DVOREC

Idrija

Kendov Dvorec

Beautifully refurbished old manor house, stuffed full of antique furniture. Brilliant restaurant, too.

The hills of Idrija lend themselves to some fantastic walking - lots of well-marked trails.

VILA PARK

Bohinj

Vila Park

Small hotel at the quieter end of the lake - no kids.

Perfect for exploring one of Slovenia's best-known hiking regions: trails are available for all levels of walkability.

LOVEC

Bled

Hotel Lovec, Bled

Great refurbishment of a very old, venerable hotel.

For you hiking folks, Bled might be a bit touristy, but the views are stunning and the trails out of town lead to some wonderous days out.

LEK

Kranjska Gora

Hotel Lek

In our opinion, just about the only hotel left in Kranjska Gora.

The HIT group have all but destroyed the old town with their rubbish casinos, but the Lek stills affords you a base to traipse about this beautiful alpine region.

VITRANC

Podkoren

Vitranc

A hotel plus an apartment hotel just across the road.

The owners have put a lot of love, care and attention into the refurbishment of these two. I have to say that the first thing I did when I entered our room was... smile. Not many hotel rooms make me do that.

Perfect for exploring the alpine region of Kranjska Gora, these two hotels are just five minutes away in Podkoren. Great for couples, families, groups or bunches.
