Allegro Hotel, Ljubljana
A dainty little hotel set in the pedestrianised Grni trg, on the edge of the old town.
The Allegro is a fully renovated building on Gornji trg just on the edge of the Old Town. It is so named as it used to be a house of Czech musicians in the 19th century. It has been beautifully furnished throughout with antique furniture, carpets and tapestries. There are just twelve rooms: one single, four twins, four doubles, two superior doubles and one suite. The beds are large and comfortable and each room is individually designed with a unique colourway. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, phone, CATV, wireless internet, safe and air conditioning.
There is a very pleasant breakfast room on the lower ground floor, where they serve a very nice buffet breakfast.
The hotel reception also features a bar, where you can relax with a hot or cold drink.
The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but there are many fine places to eat within walking distance, including Trta, Foculus and Ljubljanski Dvor for pizzas, Harambaša for authentic Bosnian kebabs, Valvas'or for excellent Slovenian, Špajza to mix with the business set and Pri Škofu for very good lunches - even Namaste for authentic Indian. Plus many bars, cafes, ice cream parlours or just about anything you fancy. Ask at reception, they'll point you in the right direction.

In the summer, shorts, frocks, T-shirts, sandals (or sturdy shoes or boots if you're off walking), something warmer for the evenings and something waterproof in case it rains. In winter: wrap up!
More than welcome. The hotel is in a pedestrian precinct, so no traffic worries... although they'll be dragging you off to splash in pools, march around castles and visit ice cream bars, no doubt.
The Allegro is open all year.
Summers are warm - July and August are the hottest months, with daytime temperatures around 25C, while during spring and autumn you can expect around 15-20C.
Winters can be very cold indeed, with deep snow sometimes between December and March.
The folks at the Allegro, from desk clerks to kitchen staff, not to mention owners were some of the best ever. And certainly we both appreciated the room, lounge, breakfasts. Obviously can't beat the location. A really lovely addition.
